We are looking for an Education Officer to plan, organise, coordinate, and promote the Alliance’s educational offerings.
As the premier French language and cultural centre in Brisbane, we are looking for a reliable and organised team player who will coordinate our team of 15+ teachers around innovative pedagogical projects to allow us to reach an even wider audience.
The position reports to the director of the Alliance Française de Brisbane.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Development of New Courses and Curriculum
• Identify and evaluate developments in the educational offerings of the Alliance Française de Brisbane to plan, develop or improve courses, with a focus on : French for Business, French workshops for schools (classroom visits, teachers’ training…), French for children and teenagers.
• Document courses developed, and evaluate new courses.
• Consult with teachers, administrative staff and the director to coordinate educational programs and provide advice.
• Serve on the Australia-wide Alliance Française pedagogical coordinators working group to identify present and future needs, and plan, develop and modify programs.
Coordination of Adult and Children Course
Ensure the general organisation and planning of language courses.
• Create, alongside the administrative team, session schedule ; assign teachers to classes under the control of the director ; and generally organise intake and monitor enrolment numbers for collective courses and private lessons.
• Follow-up on placement tests.
• Substitute for teachers or organise their replacement.
• Conduct catch-up sessions as well as some periodic events such as bilingual story times.
• Work with the marketing and the admin teams to ensure the proper promotion of courses.
• Adjust processes to improve services provided.
Support of Teachers
• Observe teachers in the classroom, noting pupil response, motivation, and teaching techniques.
• Organise and conduct discussions and workshops to train teachers, from within or outside Alliance, in new programs and methods.
• Identify and ensure the good use of new teaching resources and materials.
• Discuss programs, sessions and teachers with the director.
• Make suggestions to the director about improvements to facilities, equipment, methods and staff’s training to ensure the continued high quality of education.
Organisation of Certifications
• Implement, alongside the administrative team, DELF/DALF and TCF sessions.
Established in 1907, the Alliance Française de Brisbane is a not-for-profit organisation that helps businesses and individuals achieve more with French.
Centrally located in West End, the Alliance offers French language courses provided by qualified teachers, a French library and an e-library, and numerous cultural events as well as social activities.
Its signature event, the Alliance Française French Film Festival, is the biggest French film festival in the world outside of France and is held in March/April every year. It is about to launch Australia’s first Micro-Folie, a virtual museum, in partnership with QUT.
Education & Experience
• Must-have : Tertiary qualification with a specialisation in Teaching French as a Foreign Language, preferably with a specialisation in the use of new technologies for language teaching and learning.
• At least 3 years of experience in a similar role for a French-language institute (preferably in an Alliance Française or an Institut français).
• Must-have : at least 4 years as a French-language teacher to adults or children.
• DELF-DALF certification.
• Experience with the Queensland educational system.
• Must-have : High-level of written and verbal communication skills in English (higher-education degree from an English-speaking institution or TOEFL iBT score of 80 or higher, IELTS 6.5, or equivalent certification).
• Must-have : Proven command of French language (native or near-native fluency as demonstrated by a higher-education degree from a French-speaking institution or DALF C1 or equivalent certification).

It is essential to the role that the successful candidate possesses the skills required to network and build constructive relationships with staff and third parties. This role requires some out of hours work including evenings and weekends and the suitable candidate will demonstrate flexibility in working arrangements.
